A Distant Voice

A Distant Voice
Within a vessel she sails,
None but a princess upon her throne,
At dusk.

Alone,
Rocking to and fro,
Upon tumultuous waters,
Her life is her own.

Hushed voices
Of kings and queens speak to her.

She does not fear innocuous words
That beckon.

Escaping to the world
Of the delusive,
Court jesters laugh with her, but not at her...

In this other place,
In another time,
A shadow is pasted against blatant moonlight.
She speaks in a distant voice
That only she can hear,
Within this stolen space,
Where time has slipped away...
